North Berwick Art Group is delighted to be holding our group Summer Show - the first one since July 2019.
Please drop in to the Hope Rooms during the hours above and view the paintings that our members have been working on. There will be a wide variety of styles and media for sale – there is something to suit all tastes and budgets. We also will also be selling cards featuring the artists’ own work for £2 a card - the best value in town! The Joy Fisher Award will be presented to the best artwork as judged by our invited judge, artist Kate Henderson, and visitors may also vote for their favourite in the People's Choice. Thanks to members Diane Cains, Andrina Wright, Magaret le Grice and Christiane Maher for the poster images, which will all feature in the exhibition. Our group member Margot Archibald 's acrylic painting , "Wintertime" will feature as the October image in St Columba's Hospice Calendar 2023, along with images of other well known local artists' work, including Sheena Philips, Catriona Miller, Lesley Skeates, Keli Clark, David Hay and Clare Arbuthnott.
The appointment calendars, available via the hospice shop, are £6 each or 2 for £10. Images of each artists' work are on detachable postcards. Over the past few months a number of community groups have been working together to tackle the problem of overflowing bins particularly on the seafront. Working with East Lothian Council, they propose to purchase and install 6 new compacting bins. They are normal size but with ten times the capacity and are seagull proof! Most of the funding for the purchase has already been raised.
To raise awareness and involve the wider community, organisers are hoping that each bin will feature paintings by local artists of a seabird and the artwork will also be included in a leaflet showing their location, details of the artists and information on the environmental issues. They are working with the Seabird Centre on the selection of birds. Ideally they would select six artists for the work (which ideally needs to be ready by February 2023 as the aim is to have the bins in position by Easter). There will only be very modest amounts to cover artists costs but there should be significant and long term publicity for the works. Organisers are hoping that several artists will want to be involved and are very happy to provide more information, either individually or to arrange a group meeting. If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact the Art Group via our contact form, Facebook messenger or email [email protected] and I will pass on contact details. We are delighted that we are holding a live exhibition with the return of our annual Winter Show - the first since 2019.
Please drop in to the Hope Rooms during the hours above and view the paintings that our members have been working on. There will be a wide variety of styles and media for sale – there is something to suit all tastes and budgets. We also will also be selling cards featuring the artists’ own work for £2 a card - the best value in town! Many thanks to our members Margaret le Grice for 'Year of the Tiger' and Bernadette Wood for the Bass Rock, our poster images. As well as sharing the paintings that we are doing at home, thirty of our members have spent some time this past week painting a square for a group grid painting. Each contributor was emailed a small square to work from, and the resulting pieces were reassembled to form the whole image. Here is the result - North Berwick Art Group's version of Auguste Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party"
For our February talk we welcome artist Emily Ingrey-Counter who will be showing images of her work and discussing her materials and processes.
"My aim is to create fresh and energetic drawings of the natural world through direct and immediate mark making. Both sensitive and visceral, I want my drawings to capture fleeting moments and experiences in nature. I mostly work outside, focussing on the things that capture my attention within landscape and the wildlife that inhabits it." Our first talk of the new year will be by our President Rosie Oberlander on "Art and Technology". This will be an exploration of the theme through the ages from earliest civilisation through to what the future may hold.
Please drop in to the Hope Rooms during our forthcoming Winter Exhibition and view the paintings that our members have been working on. There will be a wide variety of styles and media in both framed and unframed work for sale – to suit all tastes and budgets! We also will be selling cards featuring the artists’ own work.
Details of our of opening times are in the poster above. Donations made by visitors will go to North Berwick in Bloom. Thanks to group member Andrina Wright for the poster image. |
